Streamers try Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild cel shading removal mod

If you’re one of the many Switch owners who bought the system for Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, it’s likely that you’ve wondered what the game looks like without the cel-shading. Wonder no more. Modders SkalFate and Altros have created a mod for the game that replaces the cel-shading with realistic graphics.

Streamers, of course, are taking full advantage of the mod. YouTuber Arkh Longstride took the mod for a spin using Cemu, a popular Wii U emulator. Thanks to the emulator, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild runs at a steady 60 frames per second.

Even with the improved performance, the results of the cel-shading removal mod are a bit unexpected. See for yourself:

As you can see, the game is a lot darker. To be honest, it’s a bit depressing. Perhaps if they increased the brightness it would look better, but as it is, I prefer the more colorful and vibrant cel-shaded graphics. To each their own!

BSoD Gaming also took a look at the new mod. His video looks more at the customization options and character model changes. Check it out below:
