Pokémon community seeks to catch 1M Pokémon for childhood cancer research

Catch a Million Pokémon

If they reach the goal, they will be raising a large amount of money for research.

Collect a Million to Conquer Kids’ Cancer is a marathon organized by the St. Baldrick’s Foundation in collaboration with the Pokémon community. English-speaking Twitch streamers are challenged to catch a million Pokémon in one week. They are raising $100,000 to do so, which will be used to fund studies all over the world.

Gotta catch a million will be updated live with the newest catch data and new challenges for participating streams. That’s thanks to a Twitch application that counts the Pokémon caught by participating streamers during the fundraising. Streamers’ catches will count towards the Pokémon Million objective as long as they are live on Twitch with the tracker.

Catch a Million Pokémon

In the numerous official games in the legendary game series from Game Freak and The Pokémon Company, players can gather all the Pokémon. During this particular marathon, streamers can play any Pokémon game – from classics like Red and Blue to Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Twitch Plays races to help reach the goal

Twitch Plays Pokemon is also conducting a week-long battle between two teams. This battle pits Team Bruce Greene and Team Kara Corvus in a race to finish as much Pokémon content as possible utilizing the chat-based game style “Twitch Plays.” By entering commands via chat, each team’s community will play classic Pokémon Red and Blue together.

All spectators are invited to participate in the Twitch Plays race for St. Baldrick’s while cheering on their favorite Pokémon streamers. This marathon to raise money for cancer research is set to run from April 24 through April 30 on Twitch.
